Dr Tjeerd Tijhof is an experienced child, adolescent, and general adult psychiatrist who treats patients aged between 13 and 60. He received his medical and psychiatric training in The Netherlands.
In 2008, he relocated to Australia after working as a psychiatrist in The Netherlands for several years. He has worked across a diverse range of public health settings for over 20 years.
He specialises in working with young people and their families who have experienced trauma or have symptoms of depression, anxiety, psychosis, or neurodevelopmental disorders (ADHD/ASD). Tjeerd also works with adults with a range of mental illnesses, including anxiety and depressive disorders, trauma-related disorders, psychotic disorders, and ADHD.
Tjeerd adopts a patient-centred, holistic, and evidence-based approach. He recognises that each individual is unique and endeavours to personalise the treatment plan to cater to their specific needs and goals. Moreover, he understands that an individual is an integral part of a family system, and thus incorporates a developmental approach that considers the system as a whole.
His relaxed interpersonal style provides a feeling of safety and containment; His practice is strongly influenced by his training in Mentalise-Based Therapy and Family Therapy
In his spare time, he enjoys exploring remote areas with his partner and two dogs in his Defender.

Initially, Marsai Clinic was located at Belmont Private Hospital. MARSAI Clinic shifted to Cleveland in 2022 and is dedicated to managing Adults with ADHD and Neurodiversity.

Dr Tjeerd Tijhof (pronounced Ch-year-t) ~ (Tay-hoff) is a child, adolescent, and general adult psychiatrist.
He specialises in working with young people and their families who have experienced trauma or have symptoms of depression, anxiety, psychosis, or neurodevelopmental disorders (ADHD/ASD).
Dr Tijhof and TT Clinic also welcome adults with a range of mental illnesses, including anxiety and depressive disorders, trauma-related disorders, and ADHD diagnosis and treatment.
TT Clinic has recently partnered with ADHD expert Dr Saibal Guha at Marsai Clinic in Cleveland. The two practices offer a welcoming space to diagnose, treat, and refer patients managing their ADHD.

TT Clinic accepts GP referrals for patients aged 13 to 60.
For patients under 18, we strongly recommend that parents/caregivers be included in the referral as part of the child's comprehensive initial diagnostic evaluation and ongoing treatment process.
STEP 1. Schedule an appointment with your GP and request a referral. GP referrals should be addressed to Dr. Tjeerd Tijhof, TT Clinic Cleveland, Q 4163, and sent via Medical Objects (MO).
STEP 2. Once the clinic receives your GP referral, you will receive a confirmation SMS, and your referral will be forwarded to Dr Tijhof for review.
STEP 3. Dr. Tijhof will assess the referral and provide notes to our administration team. This process may take up to three weeks.
STEP 4. Our admin team will send you a follow-up SMS to update you on the status of your referral. To ensure transparency and keep your healthcare team informed, we will also contact your referring GP to communicate any clinical notes or requests from Dr Tijhof.
STEP 5. After this process, TT Clinic will invite you to contact us on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays to schedule an appointment.
We understand that your need for an appointment may feel urgent. We acknowledge this concern, as we frequently discuss Queensland's specialist waiting times with new clients.
The current wait time for new clients is approximately 14 weeks from the date we receive your GP referral.

When I have my GP referral, what do I do with it? You can ask your GP or specialist team to send the referral to us via Medical Objects.
What happens then? We understand your concerns about feeling ignored. Rest assured, at TT Clinic, we are diligently working behind the scenes, carefully assessing your referral. This is to ensure that we can provide you with the best possible care and mental health outcomes.
Will you contact me to make an appointment? Yes, we will contact you or your GP to advise you on the outcome of your referral. Please remember that a referral to a psychiatrist is highly sensitive, personal, and confidential. We take our time reviewing your clinical records to ensure your privacy and security. We ask you to be patient during this initial, first-step process.
Do you have any availability at the moment? Yes, we have appointments in January 2025
What is the current wait time to see Dr Tijhof? The wait time after receiving your GP referral to your first telephone pre-appointment questionnaire and screen is fourteen weeks - three weeks for referral review and then approx.— eleven weeks for the appointment process.
